In Pittsburgh, PA, we have the Insurance Club of Pittsburgh which proved invaluable in forming relationships with carriers doing business in our area. I also use Managing General Agents (MGAs) to access specialty admitted programs. As for wholesalers, I use Tuscano Agency in Greensburg, PA (covers many states), with many other excellent regional and national wholesalers available to you such as USG Insurance, and Burns & Wilcox, to name a few. Co., and MetLife Auto & Home (soon to become part of Farmers Ins.) I also use carriers such as Foremost and Aegis for unique property risks. Co., AmTrust Financial, Berkshire Hathaway Guard Ins. I have at least 15 markets in my agency, with my favorites being Grange Ins. They can refer you good business leads which lead to a greater than 50% chance of writing business. First, make friends with accountants and attorneys. To succeed in this business, you need good markets, and good relationships.
